Abstract

Labour Market Status and Subjective Health in Young People with Disabilities during their First Entry into the Labour Market

Vocational rehabilitation is one instrument of social policy to promote people with disabilities in their social participation. Different labour market programmes are applied to facilitate labour market integration. The focus of the study lies on young rehabilitants entering the labour market for the first time. In order to evaluate the impact of vocational rehabilitation on eligible participants, the relationship between labour market status and subjective health is examined: How does a change in labour market status determine subjective well-being of young rehabilitants entering the labour market? Based on a panel survey on vocational rehabilitation and its impact on participants, panel regressions are applied. Results show that physical, mental, or general subjective health are influenced in a positive way not by labour market integration per se, but rather through integration in a working environment that is irrespective of the given disability.
