Abstract

Principal components can be used to represent essential dimensions of multidimensional socioeconomic notions of development. Here, a quadratic generalized analysis of principal components is performed when comparing the state of development for different nations. As a result, development turns out to be multidimensional indeed. Special dimensions of development are introduced by interactions between original indicators for development and underdevelopment, respectively.
