Abstract
The purpose of this study is to empirically investigate the effect of relationship conflict on subjective and objective business outcomes and the moderating effect of family climate on the conflict–business outcome relationship. Using a nationally representative sample of 392 Austrian family businesses, the results demonstrated the negative effects of relationship conflict on firm satisfaction and firm performance. Family climate has a significant direct effect on firm satisfaction and moderates the relation of conflict with both business outcomes. Thus, a positive family climate can decrease the negative effects of relationship conflict on family businesses and must be promoted.
