Abstract

Was steckt hinter dem Begriff der Assoziation von Bruno Latour? Er ist durch drei Hauptmerkmale gekennzeichnet. Er zerbricht die Grenzen zwischen Kategorien. Er gilt als Machtverhältnis. Er trägt die unterschiedlichen Formen des sozialen Lebens. Wie werden diese drei Hauptmerkmale im Assoziationsbegriff miteinander verbunden? In Latours Werk wird diese Verbindung als Zusammenspiel zwischen “Allianz“ und “Verbundenheit“ bezeichnet, was zwei Folgen hat. Einerseits gewinnt Latour mit dem Assoziationsbegriff ein festes relationales Erklärungsmuster für seine Soziologie. Aber andererseits kann es nicht mehr zwischen Assoziationen unterschieden werden. Dies führt zur kritischen Betrachtung Latours Assoziologie und zum Übergang zu einer Soziologie der Relation, die die Relation als soziologisches Problem und nicht als Antwort auf soziologische Fragestellungen thematisiert.

Abstract

What is the meaning of Bruno Latour’s concept of association? It has three main features. It breaks the borders between categories. It is a relation of power. It supports the expression of the different forms of social life. How are these three features interconnected within the concept of association? In Bruno Latour’s work, they rely on the interaction between “alliance” and “connectivity” which has two consequences. On the one hand, Latour gets with his concept of association a strong relational structure for his sociology. But on the other hand, it cannot be further differentiated between associations. This last observation leads to a critical discussion of Latour’s associology which conducts to a sociology of relation which sees relation not as the answer to sociological problems but as the sociological problem itself.
