Abstract
In order to better integrate aspects of environmental protection into economic theory the basic ideas of Koopmans' activity analysis are generalized. Based on the preferences of the producer two levels are distinguished. The usual postulates of activity analysis are valid for the effort /yield-level, but in general not for the input/output-level because of elementary laws of nature. Thus, the structure of traditional theory will be preserved for the effort/yield-level, however, with new interpretations of the results as far as the input/output-level is concerned. This is illustrated for the notion of the production function as well as for the efficiency price theorem.
