Abstract

In this study we introduce a MIMIC-health care model for the Federal Republic of Germany. The model consists of a health production function, a three equation model of health demand and a three equation measurement model of health status dimensions. Our empirical results are based on 3190 observations taken from the second wave of the German socioeconomic panel. It can be shown that half of the variance of the latent variable health can be explained by the health status indicators, while indicators of health demand hardly contribute to the explanation of the variation in individual health.
