Abstract

This paper investigates the formation of price-expectations in the investment and consumer goods industry, using quarterly data of the Ifo-Business Test for the period 1960 to 1983. The explanatory variables and its dynamic structure are established on the basis of statistical decision criteria. The results show a high degree of habit-persistence behaviour. It seems that monetary growth has additional explanatory power at least for seasonal movements for investment goods price-expectations, whereas in consumer goods industry demand pull factors play an additional role.
