Abstract

Existing methods for the measurement of sectoral inflations have some shortcomings which can largely be eliminated by an alternative method proposed in the present article. Application of this method to the Iranian industrial sectors yields the following results: (1) The hypothesis of price regidity is not supported by the facts. (2) Sectoral inflations are accompanied by profit increases above the average in nearly each case, but they are not related to extraordinary high growth rates of wages. (3) We can suport the hypothesis of so-called scarcity induced sectoral inflations. It may therefore be presumed that sectoral differences in the growth rates of factor prices and profits respectively are more or less a necessary constituent of a dynamic allocation process and not so much a main reason for general inflation
