Abstract

This article reports findings from a study of industrial mobility in the Federal Republic of Germany. The study proceeded from the hypothesis that a willingness of firms to relocate is a necessary precondition for the mobility of their establishments. There is a discussion of whether and under what circumstances firms may be expected to be willing to relocate. Following from this discussion is an empirical analysis of the mobility of industrial establishments using a data base from surveys of all industrial establishments set up in the Federal Republic of Germany between 1964 and 1971
