Abstract

The Public Service in the Financial and Debt Crisis. Austerity Policy and the Development of Employment Relations

The paper analyses more recent changes in public sector employment relations in Germany. In order to better identify national similarities and differences, it compares provisions and instruments across EU member states. The first part deals with the various consequences of austerity measures for individual employees, who constitute the central resource for the provision of goods and services. The second part analyses the collective consequences for labour market institutions, especially trade unions. The final part presents a summary and a brief outlook on future developments.
