Abstract
Model Calculations for the Labour Market of Long-Term Care: Interpretation of Results and Data Availability
In the introductory article to this issue, Simon (2012) comes to the conclusion that existing studies on (future) labour demand for long-term care display methodological as well as data problems. This article provides a short introduction to this labour market. It then addresses Simon's criticisms, and puts forward my point of view. Focusing on the statistical coverage of professions in long-term care, this article discusses the official long-term care statistics as well as the new version of the classification of occupations 2010. Given that these statistics do not cover all persons involved in long-term care, this paper sheds light on the (presumably) significant ’grey labour market for long-term care" where immigration is supposed to play an important role.
