Abstract
Analyzing Interactions of Education and Health: Potentials and Limitations of German Health Insurance Claims Data
We discuss the potential of German health insurance claims data as a database to analyse interactions of education and health. Our focus is on effects of education. We present the education and health information which is available in health insurance claims data. In order to generate relevant health measures, we also review measures that have been used in existing empirical studies on education and health for a variety of countries. We discuss challenges in the analysis of health effects. We also discuss the general advantages and disadvantages of health insurance claims data in these studies. All in all, health insurance claims data are a promising data–base to consider a variety of health outcomes that could not be examined in previous survey based studies for Germany.
