Abstract
Regional Shortages of Skilled Labour in Social Services – Actual Examples Resulting from Incentives to Increase Nursing Care
Shortages of skilled labour in many German regions have been predicted. These predictions do not only affect academic occupations, but also particular professions in the social services. Labour shortages in areas that are often not deemed to be desirable, such as nursing, could endanger the economic future of cities and regions during a time when society is aging. For this reason, economic development agencies should be encouraged to create long-term projects that bring the supply and demand for nursing professionals closer together on a regional basis. This paper provides examples, at the regional level, of how careers in nursing and other social services could be promoted by economic development agencies.
