Abstract

Social Work in the Post-Migration Society: Reconsideration of Religion and Spirituality in Accompanying Older Migrants with Experiences of Flight

Different research findings prove that religion and spirituality are among the important psychosocial resources of older people. At the same time, however, they are not always considered in an informed way in social services. While cultures of origin, migration experiences and adaptation requirements are observed in the case of older migrants* with refugee experiences in addition to usual age conditioned and socio-culturally aspects, spiritual-religious coping strategies can also play a significant role. The consideration of these resources represents an essential qualification or competence requirement in social work in order to ensure the resilience and life satisfaction of these older people and consequently to ensure social inclusion in the whole society.
