Abstract
This article deals with the question, whether the institution unemployment insurance could be responsible for additional and extended, respectively, unemployment. This literature survey on empirical studies examines potential effects of the unemployment insurance on first the entry in unemployment, second the duration of unemployment and third the reservation wage. Some critical remarks on the presented studies terminate this article.
