Abstract
Alternative economies and the idea of common good – a discourse from a Christian social ethical perspective
Due to the increasingly dense succession of crises, the question of the common good is currently pressing. Not primarily from Catholic social teaching, but from alternative approaches, e. g. from the post-growth economy, current aspects are emerging. Niko Paech refers to subsistence and sufficiency in order to reduce growth as much as possible, Christian Felber to the necessity and opportunity of a common good balance. With both of them, questions of the image of man, the relationship between freedom and pluralism, the relevance of the market, the meaning of responsibility and solidarity, participation and justice, as well as concern for the vulnerable and for creation are to be discussed critically from a Christian social ethical perspective.
