Abstract
The "golden rule" is an instruction by Jesus Christ in the Sermon on the Mount (Mt 7:12). It has its basis in the Greek and Jewish-Hellenistic vulgar ethics and the Old Testament (Tobit 4:15), but also goes beyond. It must be differentiated compared to the negative formulation of the golden rule, which can also be referred to as the "silver rule". In the positive version, a one -sided request for action is made, which can also be seen as a call to peace ethics. Here the first (one -sided) step is priority and the subsequent reciprocity is secondary. Both levels belong together, but the first step is emphasized in the Sermon on the Mount, which can also be seen as an expression of love of enemy. This love of enemy is in the golden rule at the beginning, but not alone and independently. The reciprocity ("as you do me, so I") is in second place, which in the negative version of the rule is the sole level of action. In the Christmas peace of the First World War there was a practical implementation of this golden rule.
