Abstract

Abstract: How Social Security Can Also Help in the Climate Crisis

Climate change poses a double challenge for vulnerable groups: on the one hand, they are particularly susceptible to its effects; on the other hand, climate protection measures can lead to social injustice. Against this background, the article outlines requirements for adaptive social protection systems so that they can contribute to a just transition to climate-neutral societies by offsetting the social consequences of climate policy, such as carbon pricing or the reduction of subsidies for fossil fuels, and thus also contribute to the acceptance of these policies.
