Abstract
Immanuel Kant is widely regarded as an advocate for a peaceful international order. However, in 1790, he argued that a war in accordance with international law can possess a sublime quality, particularly if fought with courage in danger, fighting barbarism. In his article, Klaus-Michael Kodalle analyzes Kant’s philosophy and his time, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine. Furthermore, Kodalle evaluates the relation of reason and evil, as well as the inherent ambivalence of freedom and liberty.
