Prof. em. Dr. Peter Strohschneider, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Fakultät für Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaften, De-partment I - Germanistik, Komparatistik, Nordistik, Deutsch als Fremdsprache Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 1 80539 München, Deutschland
Abstract
The relationship between science and politics raises fundamental questions of power. Peter Strohschneider criticises the expectation that politics must become more science-driven and that the political system malperforming in the area of health and environmental crises. Science seeks truth, politics seeks compromise. Strohschneider argues that politics, not science, is democratically legitimized and that elevating the power of science in a political system diminishes the importance of democratic, i.e., discursive politics and fundamental freedoms. Strohschneider warns that framing societal problems as existential emergencies sidelines political discourse.
